THE MABRY PROJECT REVEAL
The primary goal for this kitchen renovation was to maximize natural light. The secondary goal was to get the sink out of the island and into the perimeter cabinetry so it could overlook the scenic backyard through a new window. The existing space had the stove on the only exterior wall and relied solely on the breakfast area for daylight. After exploring the layout options, we determined the space would benefit from a little more width to accommodate a larger island while maintaining generous walkways. This required a small exterior addition, but the result brought a whole new level of functionality, warmth, and charm to the space. BEFORE: Not surprisingly, we replaced the porcelain tile floor with site finished white oak. The warmth of the wood tones instantly made the kitchen feel cozier and more inviting. For the cabinetry and countertops, we opted for a warm white palette paired with darker oak accents and marble to anchor the design. The combination created an impactful look that feels both comfortable and meaningful. The hood provided another opportunity to incorporate a custom detail, so we worked with a local artist to apply plaster in a custom mixed color with just the right amount of texture. It's these little details that make a world of difference in a kitchen's overall feel. More to read: The Mabry Exterior We couldn't forget the breakfast area. It already featured a vaulted ceiling so we added tongue and groove paneling to enhance the look. And while we didn't mind the existing chandelier, we ultimately decided to swap it out for a pendant with a tighter diameter that felt more balanced within the new kitchen footprint. The new fixture also adds a textural element that complements the rest of the kitchen. In the end, what was once a kitchen ready for a refresh became a spacious, inviting, and light-filled space. It's proof that a kitchen renovation isn't just about aesthetics; it's about creating a space that enhances the way you live. -------- Have an upcoming project that you'd like to be thoughtfully designed?
